💧 Jobs should flow like tap water but India’s labor market is split between two pipes
On one side, MSMEs (excluding factories)-
- India’s largest employment generator.
- They hire hyperlocal talent: the shop assistant, delivery partner, local accountant.
- Their demand is deeply geography bound.
On the other side, Factories-
- Over 2 lakh units employing nearly 1.8 crore people.
- Their demand is migrant driven, pulling workers across districts and states.
Two engines of growth. Two opposite labor models.
👉 Do we solve for hyperlocal stickiness first?
👉 Or for migrant fluidity?
Because until we reconcile these two forces, every jobs platform will remain a patchwork.
➡️ The real challenge is building a system where access to jobs is as ubiquitous as DPI, yet flexible enough for both local discovery and migrant mobility
What’s your take, should India double down on hyperlocal job boards, or build highways for labor mobility? Or is it possible to solve for both simultaneously?
